Evocation
A Radical Approach to Change
*1 Continuing Education (CE) Clock Hour for Behavioral Health Professionals (Home Study Format)
Taught By Bill O'Hanlon
Historically, much of the underlying philosophy of psychotherapy and change work has presupposed that a person will need to be given external direction to achieve positive growth. However, psychotherapy innovator, Bill O’Hanlon, came to see different possibilities for change from his studies under the psychiatrist Milton Erickson. Studying under Dr. Erickson, Bill came to see that people could be led towards the change they desired by simply being given the tools to connect with their internal resources and knowledge, through the process that Bill calls “evocation”
In this brief training, Bill O’Hanlon, will walk students through his process of conceptualizing and implementing therapeutic evocation.
Learning objectives
- To explore how evocation uses therapeutic models
focused on untapped emotional resources instead of deficits.
- To challenge the common position of seeing therapist as
an expert on the client, allowing the therapist to move to the role of
collaborator/facilitator to facilitate therapeutic change.
- To review specific evocative methods as that therapists and helping professionals will be able to utilize in their work with their clients.
